Our Approaches

Parents as 'Parents' in Management: SMERPCT promotes participation of parents in management of school activities through system of inviting parents to observe the learning and teaching methodology adopted by the organization. The parents co-sit an entire session in class with their children and share their observations with the management for overall improvement of the child

Use of innovative learning and therapeutic applications: SMERPCT promotes innovative learning methodology, such as 'Play Theracy' for joyful learning by children and at the same time building foundation of their development. The organization is one among few, in Gujarat to introduce special therapeutic applications, such as 'Music Therapy' and first one to introduce 'Animal Assisted Therapy' for rehabilitation of children with intellectual impairment. Adoption of 'Yoga' technique is one among these innovative therapies implemented by the organization.

One to one intervention for child development: A group of children is assigned to a special teacher. The teacher develops individual lesson plan based on current level of ability of a child and builds-up details plan of action for each child development. The child development plans are reviewed together by management and parents for school and home based activities.

 

Comprehensive child development: Along with education, physical and vocational rehabilitation, to inculcate comprehensive development of child, the organization accomplish various programs related to culture, festival celebration, competitions, related to sports, arts, music, visits to melas and annual picnic.

Networking

SMERPCT believes in working together with all organizations with similar objectives including other NGOs and community groups. SMERPCT facilitated establishment of a Parent's Association of children with intellectual disabilities - "Mavjat", having membership of 250 parents in Surat.
